Do I need a permit to boat on the Chain?

Yes. Boats on the Chain need a Fox Waterway Agency sticker and a current state registration. Contact the agency about temporary options if you're only visiting.

Do I need a boat to fish?

No. You can start from shore, though a boat opens up much more water.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring and fall offer some of the most consistent fishing. Summer is the busiest season for boating, and winter can offer ice fishing when conditions are safe.

What's the easiest fish for beginners?

Bluegill and bullhead catfish are good places to start. Both are abundant and don't require expensive equipment.

Can I camp near the lakes?

Chain O'Lakes State Park offers camping. Check with the park for current availability and reservations.
